BUSH & KERRY BATTLE AT SINGLETRACKAUG 3.

This is from IMBA

Singletrack is the only way to the White House this year. The news is about two Texas-based cyclists, but not the rivalry between Lance Armstrong & Tyler Hamilton.

The national media has covered President George Bush’s recent enthusiasm for off-road cycling. He is not the only presidential candidate to ride. Senator John Kerry’s main outdoor activity is cycling, both road and mountain biking. The press took notice.

Tim Blumenthal, executive Director of the International Mountain Bicycling Association, stated that it is great news for mountain biking, as both presidential candidates are avid cyclists. IMBA recognizes this by enlisting both candidates as honorary IMBA member and making sure that both campaigns understand our priorities.

Bush started mountain biking after suffering from knee pain. His regular routine includes long rides at Camp David in Maryland and on his Texas ranch. Senator Kerry was photographed on his road bike but he is also known for pedaling dirt trails in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The campaign is suddenly being given a new spin by cycling. Our sport is getting valuable exposure, whether it’s wire service stories, evening news highlights, or Jay Leno jokes.

The Sunday, August. 1 New York Times edition was the highlight of media coverage. On page four of the Week in Review section, Culture Wars, on Two Wheels was a feature article. The article contrasted the riding styles of the candidates using stereotypes from road and mountain biking. The story includes a quote from IMBAs Blumenthal.

It doesn’t matter for whom you vote in this year’s election, it is good to know that both of these candidates love sweet singletrack!

A related story: Could someone please send President Bush a copy MBA? Two Associated Press reports have been reported on stories about our president crashing his brains while riding a mountainbike.

According to some reports, the top two men in the world wear yellow Live Strong wristbands. These bands are in circulation already at 7 million, making it almost impossible to believe that you haven’t seen one. The Lance Armstrong Foundation is promoting them with the initial goal of raising millions for cancer patients around the globe. Let’s get 2 million more, since they have easily surpassed this figure. Visit the following websites to find out more about the bands
